Electronic Chess

Electronic chess is the new hi-tech way to play chess. These sets are usually highly portable, and allow you to play against an opponent or against the computer. Some of these machines even have built in tutorials and puzzles to improve your game.

There are a variety of electronic chess units available. They range from fairly inexpensive beginner's models to more expensive versions for serious players. Prices range from under $50 to well over $300.

Electronic chess devices use sensors in the pieces and the board in order for the computer to keep track of the moves. Usually all that is required is to push slightly on the beginning square with the piece, and then doing the same on the ending square. Some computers are advanced enough that just dragging the piece from one square to another is sufficient.
