Chess Sets

Chess sets come in a wide variety of sizes and styles. The classic versions, or Staunton pattern, have a board and traditionally shaped pieces. There are also many sets with fantasy, science fiction and many other "themes."

Chess sets can be made of any number of materials. Most sets today are made from either wood or plastic, although more expensive versions will use metal and stone. In addition, there are more exotic sets made from bone and other unusual materials.

Chess sets will vary greatly in price. Plastic and mass-produced wooden sets are usually the least expensive. However, many custom and exotic versions sell for well over $1000.
